Sandringham - the return and a discovery
When we bought the old Cheyenne our first trip away was overnight at the Royal Estate Sandringham, a caravan and Motorhome club site. One thing we did remember was that both the TV reception was awful if you relied on the Van’s aerial - and the mobile coverage was shocking!
On the way to the site - where we live is only 20 odd miles as the crow flies from home - we decided to stop and look at the ruined abbey at North Creake - neither of us had been there before - we knew there was not much but…..
This also gave me an opportunity to get used to driving Ziggy - our old Moho was also based on a Fiat Ducati but with the 2.5 normally aspirated engine. The difference is noticeable - the old van cruised comfortably at 50 mph - Ziggy is comfortable at 55 or even 60 - and rather than having to drop down multiple gears for steep hills, the turbo has made a BIG difference.
After that short break, we drove through Burnham Market and the smell of New Money and arrived at Sandringham bob on 1300.
The purpose of this trip was to actually use the shower on board - that was vital in my opinion so that we could rely on the shower for trips involving Aire Stays, and also to try - it was damn cold outside, the heating and how well insulated the van is. And being sad, I wanted to see how well my portable weather station worked - i have secured the external monitor to the rear ladder. I had wanted to have a clock in Ziggy, and i decided that it made sense to spend a little more and to get a weather station….. It worked well - and as for the insulation, we both noticed that fitting the external insulated windscreen cover had a very pronounced effect - if you don’t have one - get one!
As i have said, we wanted to really try the shower system out - and once we had got our head around using the hand held shower head to spray, then lather, then rinse off - it worked well.
But this did lead to my major klutz moment - one thing that i had not understood was how to empty the grey waste - as it always seemed to be empty….. now, as it happens, I had noticed this thing sticking out by the exhaust on the off side…..
Yep - that’s a handle - so i wanted to see what it did … so i got down on my knees to see. And then the thing i had read about the handle located under the vehicle came back into my mind… YEP - you guessed it - when i closed it, the grey waste tank drain was then closed….
So one major thing learnt - and we also used our air fryer - and my new recipe book - Clare Andrews Ultimate Air Fryer Cookbook is worth every penny - as is buying some accessories! Over the next week end I will get Ziggy onto my front lawn to get the drive back, and then we are also going to be cleaning Ziggy!
