Waxham to see the seals

 When we started to look around and plan our first trip in Ziggy, we wanted something close by, but with a purpose.

For what ever reason - probably because i am allergic to doing Grockle things - I have never been to Horsey to see the seals - so after a quick search, I found a local campsite called Walnut Farm - £28 later, we were booked in for a Saturday night.


This part of Norfolk is very close to sea level - there is a huge dune / sea defence that basically keeps the land as - well, dry land !
Once we had parked up, we went for the mile walk to the beach, and walked alongside the North Sea - and no, we did not fancy a dip!




 
The part of the Seal Colony we walked through was the less popular end - we saw perhaps 60 seals in total, ranging in age - the only one that got Marcy was a young, probably male Pup - bloody teenagers!






We walked along the beach up to Horsey gap, then walked into the village to visit the Nelson Head Pub - good beer and cider collection. After a couple of restorative ales, we walked back to Waxham.

We spent a lovely evening in Ziggy - the TV reception was hit and miss, but we had things to do anyway. Not having a DVD player was no issue in real terms. What i did object to was showers being an extra cost - no, even if it is only a pound for 10 minutes, that’s wrong. I also objected to there being no hot water in the toilets - and by no hot water, there was not even a hot water tap - call me a bluff old traditionalist nurse, but simple hand hygiene starts with soap and hot water!

Cooking wise, i knocked up a simple steak, mushrooms and chips….

All told we travelled around 100 miles there and back again - with a little detour to see a few sites along the way.
Ziggy drove well, and i think we used around a quarter of a tank of diesel - i do want to wash Ziggy down though as the amount of grime off the roads

Engine Tweaks

 One thing that I have noticed with Ziggy is the difference the 2.8 JTD engine makes - its less frenetic with gear changes than the old normally aspirated 2.5 engine that was up and down the gearbox in hilly territory like a bride's nightie. But, the engine is a tad thirstier - not by much but..... So I started looking and thinking about getting the engine mapped fully - something that I have done to good effect on my Aprilia 1000 in the past. Please note that you need to be very specific with regards to the engine - there are multiple variants of the same thing so 2.8JTD is not enough. DIY panel

 Many people have commented that I am a very careful Red Sea Pedestrian, so when we lost the outer cover panel from the fridge, I checked the cost of a replacement - and then started plotting…. I was reliably informed that the cost of the replacement was a lot - so I started to look for what I actually needed. I found a 3mm thick white gloss sheet on Amazon for 20 drinking vouchers, and I also sourced a selection of well nuts that I knew would be needed to safely secure the panel when completed. Additionally, I sourced a large cardboard box from Lidl. By chance I had a grille still in its packaging from a project a couple of years ago - a new one would cost around £10 from amazon I believe. The card board bos was flattened and then, with the aid of a set square, metre long rule and and craft knife - and the assistance of Number One Son a template was made. Ziggy the Laika Kreos 3010

 In September 2023 we decided to sell on the old AutoTrail Cheyenne 585 - we had only bought it in June, and had managed to use it a lot - Not only to Latitude but also on our travels for the summer holidays with the boys. Me being me, I advertised and sold within a week - and I do wish Howard and Becky well with the old girl - we loved owning her. We had decided that we wanted to change as we are - at damn near 60 for myself, too bloody old to be climbing a ladder to bed - and we wanted a made up permananent bed! we also wanted a decent size fridge and freezer and being the resident cook - I did want a decent size cook prep area We had a limited budget and started too look around - I was expecting to have to travel but amazingly enough, we came across an advert to the west of Downham Market, we went across and fell in love....
