Oxburgh Hall and Thetford Forest CAMC

Image
Oxburgh Hall  is one of our favourite  National Trust  properties - it’s a Moated Country House, and inside it holds a plethora of treasures  Since our last visit, they have reopened the  Priest’s Hole  which neither of us had ever seen before - this cleverly hidden safe place was tiny and cramped to say the least The outside of the hall is stunning and the gardens are worth a visit. This time we did not visit the village church, which does have some incredible adornments - but a brief walk around the entrance was wonderful, even in the rain! Leaving Oxburgh, it was only a short drive to  CAMC Thetford Forest Club site  and we arrived around 1400. This site is entered by driving past  7th Armoured Division Memorial - more on this later   The camp site is surrounded by trees - it has only got service points - no showers or toilet block but it’s very peaceful  We had booked for two nights, but left early - I had an appointment with the football on the Sunday - and we became aware the e

Modesty Screen?

Ziggy has the normal panoply of blinds, fly screens and even curtains around the driving cab, but there is nothing over the Habitation door window…. This window, of course does face towards the shower / loo - and SWMBO differs from me in that I don’t mind appearing Tackle Out, but she likes to maintain her modesty when appearing Au Natural… So, after our last trip away I decided to have a close look and to see if I could construct a solution. I sought advice from the normal places - one person had a black out cover held in place with poppers, another had use sticky hooks that a towel could be hung off - all credible ideas, but…. Didn’t feel right for what I had in my mind’s eye. It was also an interesting challenge as, it typical Laika fashion, no space had been wasted and there was not much in the way of frame to play with. Way back when I bought my first house, and could not afford expensive blinds - I didn’t bother with them as I don’t mind doing the bollock naked window dance, but

Anglesey Abbey

Normally it’s just myself and Jo who go away, but - in advance of Latitude  we did want a trial run with Michael and James. So we drove the sixty odd miles and arrived at  Anglesey Abbey - and how nice it was to see the dedicated area of the car park for motorhomes! The entrance area was clean and very busy - I think it’s wonderful just how many people obviously have  National Trust Memberships  - and take the time to visit - with out membership you would be paying over £45 for a family of 4. The first thing that struck me was how the grounds are laid out with some statues for emphasis, leaving through paths that lead to the house. I don’t know what I was expecting from the house, but knowing that part of it was pre reformation I was intrigued - though not outwardly large, it was certainly well appointed. The first Lord Fairhaven had bought the house in 1924 and extensively renovated it to house his collections - especially of British landscape art, though he also had a great eye for
